Cross-Border Litigation in the Digital Economy: How to Avoid Getting Lost in Translation

In March 2020, UIA will travel to the San Francisco Bay Area to host an international summit on cross-border litigation in the digital economy. The summit will bring together in-house counsel of major Bay Area and Silicon Valley companies along with the US and non-US lawyers and forensic experts they work with to confront an increasingly global litigation portfolio.

Through six panels over the course of a day and a half at the downtown SF headquarters of the San Francisco Bar Association, participants will engage in interactive discussions of key areas of cross-border disputes: general litigation, intellectual property, antitrust, employment law, data privacy and platform liability questions, criminal investigations, and other international litigation issues. The panels will discuss best practices for cooperation among company lawyers and their domestic and foreign outside lawyers and experts both at the substantive legal level (including vexing questions about cross-border legal privilege and ethical obligations), down to practical logistics such as translation, document collection and review, and retention of expert witnesses. With speakers from both the Bay Area and countries around the world, the summit is a must for lawyers who work in-house on cross-border litigation, interact with foreign lawyers, or represent clients in cross-border disputes.

San Francisco is the ideal locale for the summit. With the most prominent technology and new economy companies headquartered there and in nearby Silicon Valley, the summit will provide extraordinary opportunities for learning, exchange and networking. And of course the city is famous for its spectacular scenery and diverse culture, world-class cuisine, and urban landscape –many consider it the most beautiful and international city in the United States. Plus the Sonoma and Napa wine-growing regions are only an hour away, creating the opportunity for an extraordinary weekend in the vineyards.

Mark your calendars now, save the date and make sure to register! We are looking forward to welcoming you to San Francisco!
