UIA Seminar - Mediation and Energy Transition
UIA Seminar - Mediation and Energy Transition
In response to the climate challenge and its imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the transition process (environmental, energy, etc.) at work is disrupting societies and economies. This is due to the power and irreversibility of the transformations it implies, particularly in hydrocarbon-exporting countries forced to rethink their economic and social model.
The challenges to be met are immense to carry out the transition, within a tight timetable given the worsening of climate change and its dramatic consequences. In this perspective, it is imperative to anticipate and manage the broad-spectrum conflict of the transition as best we can, in the interest of States, companies and citizens.
Dialogue between stakeholders is essential and is at the heart of sustainability policies, whether international, regional or local. The place of mediation, in this context, is central.
The conference, jointly organised by the Mediation and Conflict Prevention Commission and the Kuwaiti National Committee of the UIA, aims to explain – by adopting a multidisciplinary and transnational approach – the complexity of the transition and how mediation can support it.
